Like a Mother

Village life ceased. It ceased until I, Deborah, arose; I arose like a mother in Israel. Judges 5:7 MEV

It should be no shock to any of us that God is highlighting the role of the family in this season. It seems as if the attacks are coming from every side. Things are happening in this Nation that we would never have imagined, even a decade ago: Drag Queen story hour, transitioning children, lockdowns, minor- attracted persons, kids identifying as animals, etc; and if you are not careful, it’s easy to be overwhelmed and lulled to sleep by the darkness that abounds all around us. The attack on the identity of our children should be a wake-up call to all of us. This is not a season of peace- it’s a season of war! God has never been more serious about the role of mothers in this Nation! If there was ever a time to arise, it’s now!

Many of us are familiar with the story of Deborah in Judges chapters 4 & 5, and the following Bible verse has been highlighted to me several times over the past few years.

I can only imagine the social, political and spiritual atmosphere of Israel at the time of the Judges. Judges chapter 5 paints the picture of an oppressed people who were too afraid to go into the streets for fear of the violence that may ensue. The Israelites had stopped sharpening their weapons and had stopped fighting back. Judges 5:7a in the Message translation says: “Warriors became fat and sloppy, no fight left in them.”

These verses seem to mirror the social and spiritual climate that we are facing in this Nation. Our children are being targeted online and in schools. They are being asked to sacrifice their true identity on the altar of political wokeness. It’s time to arise.

Although Deborah was a leader, a judge and a prophetess, the title she assumed when deciding to take action to change the atmosphere of her nation was “mother!”

It was March 2018 when I walked onto a High School campus as a missionary for the first time. God was challenging me to do something a little unorthodox and needless to say, I was nervous.I realized very quickly that I didn’t have to have all the answers. God had given me authority as a mother in the community. I walked in love. I nurtured their hearts, and, by the grace of God, many students were led to Jesus because I chose to arise. So mama, what is God asking you to do? All authority has been given to Jesus, and He gave it to YOU (Luke 10:19). The greatest role that you can assume in changing the world around you is mother! Whether you are a homeschool mother, corporate mother, ministry mother or retired mother- God is calling you to arise like Deborah. Step out of your comfort zone and take your place in this Nation.
