From Sewer to Siloam

"What sewer pipe burst in your life to reveal the road to the temple?” Pastor Louie Giglio
No matter how elaborate or cosmopolitan a city may appear, underneath it all is a complex and necessary maze of sewage pipes and structures. Without it, the byproduct of life would make the city unlivable.
Just like a city, we develop infrastructure in our hearts and minds to encapsulate and dispose of the ”yuck” created by daily life. Our feelings of shame, hatred, hurt, fear, pride and so much more are buried under the surface, coursing through a system that is looking for a dumping ground. A system that tends to get blocked by whatever life throws at us.
Without Christ, the internal pressure placed by this constant flow is a ticking time bomb. Daily relying on Him is like having an on-call septic expert, someone who knows just how gross our mess is and isn’t afraid to clean it out.
Psalm 51:10 is David’s cry to be made pure from within. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
Ezekiel writes this promise from God, “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”
The Pool of Siloam, famously known as the place where Jesus healed the blind man, was a place of healing and cleansing for those making the pilgrimage to the Temple of God in Jerusalem. It was re-discovered several years ago when a sewage pipe burst and required repairs.
We are all in need of repair. Our pipes are broken and leaking all over our lives and the lives of those we love daily. It’s why Christ came. It was true then and true now. Join me today in inviting God to reveal the areas of your life that need His mighty and gentle expert hand to rescue, repair and restore.
